THE SIMPLE ACT OF LETTING GO

A performance depicting a primary, fundamental action.

Iceland Dance Company presents: The Simple Act of Letting Go, a new creation by Tom Weinberger.

Duration: 40 min

It takes place right here, right now, but also off the coast of Portugal. That is how she remembers it. At some point, two individuals will be left on stage. However, they are not only themselves; they are absolutely everyone. Following a pulse, we move through a non-linear journey composed of autobiographical and fictional truths.

We hold our cliches, all at the same time, so embarrassingly soft, letting drama flood the space while knowing it’s nothing more than feelings

The piece indulges in the fragmenting of timelines, inviting us to dance a vast landscape of emotions and characters.

Side by side, with time leaking, we listen.

And then the quiet.

Tom Weinberger was born in Israel and graduated from the Amal School of Arts and Sciences. Upon graduation, he joined the Batsheva Ensemble and the Batsheva Dance Company under artistic director Ohad Naharin. In 2012 became a founding member of L-E-V under Sharon Eyal and Guy Behar. Tom danced with the Gothenburg Ballet and was a guest artist with Michael Keegan Dolan’s-Fabulous Beast Dance Theater and Forsyth Company.

During his time with the company, he began choreographing under ‘Batsheva Dancers Create.’ In 2014 his first solo work won the International Solo Tanz Theater Festival (Stuttgart), which toured Brazil and Germany. Since then, Tom has choreographed works at Johannes Wieland Dance Company, Netherlands Dans Theater 2, Haramt Massah Festival, Springboard Dans Montreal, Arts Umbrella, SUNY Purchase College, YC2, and more.
