Ball is a performance by artist duo Alexander Roberts and Ásrún Magnúsdóttir made in collaboration with Iceland Dance Company.
Ball is performed by a diverse group of amateur and professional dancers – a national champion in break dancing from the 1980s, a retired ballerina, a ballroom star, Iceland’s godmother of contemporary dance, a bollywood dancer, the Iceland Dance Company dancers and a rock’n’roll dancer, among others – the thing that unites everyone in this group is the love for dance.
Ball makes space for dance lovers of many ages, backgrounds, experiences and body types to take to the stage and dance together.
Each dancer offers a solo, chooses their own music, and finds ways of sharing and performing that solo with the group. Each solo brings the dancer’s own body, as well as their passion, history and relationship to dance to the fore. At the same time, just like in a ball, it is not about virtuosity or the brilliance of each solo per sé, it is about the experience that comes from dancing these dances together.
Premiere on May 12th at the Reykjavik City Theatre
