Geigengeist

At a distant place we meet in a moment in time through the harmony of the violin. In this violin-like dimension, the atmosphere vibrates and the environment is constantly transformed by the rhythmic heartbeat of techno music. The organisms here are interconnected with the forces at work and inspire visitors into the realm of physical expression.

The club is a cosmic violin world in which the visitor enters, travels and participates. Here, the past, future and present meet in an inclusive and free space as a symbol of unity and solidarity as well as individual freedom. Thus, Geigengeist is a proposal for a future social spirit.

Geigengeist is a ceremony of experience, where dance, music, design and art are joined within the theme of the club. Geigengeist premiered on November 11th, 2022 at the Reykjavik City Theatre.

Geigengeist is a new creation by the techno-violin duo Geigen. The work is made in collaboration with artist Sean Patrick O’Brien and costume designers Tanja Huld Levý & Alexía Rós Gylfadóttir.

The techno-violin duo Geigen consists of the composer Pétur Eggertsson and the choreographer and artist Gígja Jónsdóttir. They formed Geigen in San Francisco in the fall of 2018 and have since the beginning of 2019 hosted the concert experiences “Geigen Galaxies” at various venues and events, e.g. at the Reykjavík Dance Festival / Vorblót, at the art festival LungA in Seyðisfjörður, the new media festival Raflost and the children’s music festival Big Bang. Geigen rebels against the classical image of the violin, it is the need to break out of traditional systems, it embraces the violin and attempts to bring it into the future and use it as a unifying force across art forms.
