The Iceland Dance Company presents "Romeo and Juliet — Up Close" at the New Stage of the City Theater this spring.

The work is a contemporary reimagining of an older piece initially crafted in collaboration with the dancers of the Gärtnerplatz Theater in Munich. It premiered on the grand stage of the City Theater in 2021. In this new production, the audience is brought closer to the performance, creating a unique and immersive experience.

Shakespeare's classic tragedy is meticulously deconstructed, unfolding into numerous narratives that run parallel, forming a world teeming with lustful desire, bodily fluids, and flaming tongues of fire. The production explores the hurtful power of screams and the healing force of love, all set against the backdrop of a bright and neon-colored heart. The show is enhanced by adventurous scenery and costumes, captivating video work, and the enchanting music of Sergei Prokofiev. The result is a performance that resonates with everyone who experiences it, leaving no one untouched.
